Honda announced that it has managed to sell 800,000 hybrids in 12 years and two months after launching the first model of this kind: Insight in 1999.
While not enjoying the success of their rival from Toyota, those from Honda have managed to write an important page in the history of the first hybrid models. In 1999, they launched the first generation of Insight on the market in Japan and they marked their debut in an unknown market segment, but where Toyota had already pioneered.
Since then and until now Honda has continued to experiment and improve its performance. It has been more than 12 years after its official debut in this segment, selling 800,000 hybrid copies. The press release shows that the performance has been achieved since December last year, exactly 12 years and 2 months after the launch of the first Insight.
Honda’s pioneer in the hybrid technology consumed at launch, in 1999, just 2.9 liters/100 km, the most efficient gasoline model of the moment.
Over the years, Honda has continued to broaden their range of hybrid models with eco versions of the Civic and Accord, both equipped with IMA. It is found on the new Insight, recently revised, and CR-Z.
